Struggling to stay motivated at home? We get it. Our houses are filled with endless distractions. The temptation to scroll through Instagram or binge that new Netflix show is stronger than ever.
This is why we have come up with our motivational hacks to help keep you on track when working from home.
Clothes really do make a difference! Certain clothes are connected to certain mindsets. We understand the temptation to stay in your comfy pyjamas but it will have an impact on how productive you are throughout the day. Pyjamas are associated with lounging around whereas as a blazer is associated with being professional. We're not saying that you have to wear a three-piece suit around your living room but rather changing into a shirt and jeans to help get you into a working frame of mind. Dressing for a work environment can help you to feel as though you are in one even if you're just sitting in your living room.
It is important to give yourself and your brain a break.
When you take a break you could watch a YouTube clip that is completely unrelated to what you're working on. Or you could do a quick workout. Exercising releases endorphins which can help you to feel refreshed and motivated to get back to work.
Taking a break is healthy because it gives you times to clear your head and come back to work with a fresh mindset.
The environment may have changed but the goal hasn't! Just because you aren't in the office, it doesn't mean that what you want to achieve has changed. Don't lose sight of what it is that you want to accomplish!
When you're working at home write down your goals and stick them up around you. Whenever you feel yourself losing motivation, look around and see what you've written to help keep you on track. Let the goal of achieving a task motivate you. Let it help you stay focused.
Have a chat. Whether that be with your colleague, your boss or even just a friend. Talking to people about what is going well and what you may be struggling with will help you to stay motivated. Talking to others can help remind you what it is that you want to achieve and help you to get refocused on the task at hand.
Creating a reward for completing certain tasks can help you stay motivated because it gives you something to work towards. So after you've finished with a successful meeting or making that edit to your website, treat yourself with watching 15 minutes of that new Netflix show you're obsessed with. Or spend 15 minutes playing a bit of that game you love. Or take a few minutes out to call a friend just to have a bit of a gossip. The choice is completely yours. Sometimes you just need to give yourself the praise you deserve. When you have achieved a big task, it is important to take the time to appreciate the hard work that you put into it. The way that you choose to reward yourself is up to you.
